I tend to at times take "Spur of the moment" road trips.I just grab my purse, and get in my vehicle and take off down the highway. Some would say I am crazy what with the price of Gasoline and all,but I enjoy the time to myself. So please read on......
Routed via Local Roads,SR235,US68,SR380,SR73,I-71,I-75,I-74,I-275,I-75,I-675,and to home....

As per the usual,I got bored again.I left home and took off down some local roads to get to SR235.While on one of them I happened upon a Doe in a field next to the road.I reached down and hit my air horn button(No homes nearby to disturb anyone) and it left in an oposite direction.I'd hate to hit it and kill it.It would maybe seriously hurt me as well in such a crash. That is not needed.I got on SR235 and proceeded to US 68.After getting on US 68 and getting into Xenia, all was well so far as I got on to SR380.A local police officer pulled out of a side street.S/he was the first cop of the night.I finally got into the 146.880 ham repeater in Cincy by that time and was talking to Will,Wally, and Jay.I had been talking to John and Tracy on the 147.150 machine earlier, but Xenia is on the fringe of that system so I was broken at times to them.I got to SR73 and made the very short jog to I-71 South and the real part of the trip was on.I had the scanner, the CB radio, and the Ham Radio going and all was well. Not too many "nutcases" on the road tonight. So far.I made it to the bridge over the Little Miami river/bike path and found 2 tires very close to the white line on the bridgeside.Someone were to hit one of them, that could be a mess.It is about 80-100ft.(?) drop to the river & bike path below. Not good if you go over the side.I got into Cincy ok and all was going great, but the digital mesage board stated that the ramp from the Norwood Lateral(Hwy. that used to carry I-71 to I-75 before it was completed the rest of the way to Ft.Washington Way)to I-75 South was closed.Take I-71 South back to I-75 North. That is about a 14 mile detour(sic).I had no troubles with the tunnel on I-71 just past the I-471 exit. You really do need to watch coming out of the tunnel though and keep it at the 40mph they say to.It is like "Deadman's Curve" on I-90 in Cleveland.Too fast, and you'll be skidding down the road on your side.It is a sharp curve going into Ft.Washington Way.Not much traffic on the road tonight. It was relaxing.I then got on I-75 North. Was I going back towards Dayton?Nope.Decided I wanted to chart unexplored territory.I had in all my years of travel to Cincy at times, never been on the stretch of I-74 from I-75 to I-275.So off at exit 3 we went.I was still chatting to the guys on the Ham rig,as I had been since getting on I-71,and enjoying my ride.I looked at the gas gauge and was close enough to E that I had better get fuel.I saw a hwy sign for the Rybolt Rd./Harrison Rd. exit and it stated "BP 24 hrs.".I got off and went up the street to it.$1.91 a gallon??Not!No way I am filling up there!I got $3.00 which I figured would get me as far as the Tylersville Rd./I-75 area later.I got done with the gas,and back onto I-74 I went.a few minutes later,I exited off to I-275 North to go back to I-75.I-275 was quiet.I did see about 4 trash haulers going somewhere, but other than that traffic was very light. One of these days,I am going to go down to the Bass Pro Shops store down at the Forest Fair Mall off Winton Rd.I keep seeing it,but never get to go.I got up to I-75 and got on Northbound(I do hope that ODOT hurries up with the construction there. It is hades to get on North or South from I-275).After the cop in Xenia,I had seen no other officers on any of the roads. The scanner's radio traffic told me they were working, but not where I was at.I started North and when I got to Exit 21 for Cincinnati-Dayton Rd.,I found a hwy. sign that said Mobil.Aha!A United Dairy Farmers!Let's see what their price is.I got off the exit and saw that Speedway and Shell were $1.78,I had to figure that UDF was as well. They were.So I pull in,get fuel($12 this time),and something to drink.Folks,if you have a "Speedpass" from Exxon/Mobil,you know what I am talking about. If not,get one and tie it to your credit or debit card.Like they say on TV,"You Too can be as fast as Ryan Newman".You get your fuel, walk in the store get your drinks, etc. and go to the cashier. No credit cards,no fumbling for cash.Just take your "Speedpass" and place it on the little spot on the card reader and let the Logo light up.Once the register links up with Mobil's system and confirms all is well, the register spits out two receipts(All of about 30 secs.) and you are on your way.Nothing to sign,no change to wait for, nothing, nada, zip! You are on your way.I was in and out in no time.I got back on I-75 and started North.About 9 minutes later, and after seeing my second cop(An OSP Trooper),A truckdriver was on the CB wanting to know if anyone knew anything about Fairborn.I answered him and asked where he needed to go.He said he needed to go to the Ashley Home Store up there.Easy!I told him directions and found out where he was at.He was only about 1 1/2 miles ahead of me.I quickly caught up to him as we got on I-675 and started North. When we got near the exit for N.Fairfield Rd. is when I called him again and let him know where to go.He thanked me and I proceeded on up I-675.I got near I-70,and as usual, the "nutcases" came out. These people simply do not want to wait in any sort of "line" to exit onto I-70 East. They will do 80+mph if they have to,then cut someone off to get in the lane for the ramp simply because they don't want to be stuck in a line of cars/trucks getting off to go East.It is a wonder that Enon has not had more MVA calls than they do there because of that.Anyhow,I got onto I-70 and from there headed homeward bound. All was well with the brake pads I had replaced earlier yesterday, and I was safely back home.Thaks and praise be to God for that.I enjoyed the time spent.Maybe here sooner or later,I'll take off to Michigan again or Cleveland.I haven't been up North in a long time. It's about time to go.Have a great day!! And come back soon to see where I go to next on a "Spur of the Moment". - Kaci
